A CENTURIES-OLD LEGACY

Bringing back a tradition that has existed in this territory since medieval times, Ponciano de Abreu's parents began to make Alvarinho wine during the 19th century, establishing this unique grape varietal on their estate located on the hills of Paderne, in Melgaço, northwest Portugal.
In the first quarter of the 20th century, Ponciano de Abreu embraced the goal of expanding his vineyards, being one of the pioneers in the production of Alvarinho wine, already covered by the legislation related to the Vinho Verde Demarcated Wine Region.
Rui Esteves, Ponciano de Abreu's grandson, revived this project a couple of decades ago. He gave it a professional outlook and equipped it with a business structure, focusing its production according to the rules in force for Alvarinho wines produced in the region of Monção and Melgaço. Paying homage to the visionary and entrepreneurial spirit of his grandfather, he named his commercial brand as "DOM PONCIANO".
Could Ponciano de Abreu have wished for a better reward? When he had this dream of obtaining real nectar from Alvarinho golden grapes in the unique "terroir" of Paderne?

Alvarinho Grande Réserve Brut

Single varietal Alvarinho sparkling wine, of citrine yellow colour, with fine bubbles and persistent mouth feel. It yields a good balance between acidity and alcohol, where the fruity aroma of the Alvarinho varietal persists. Should be served between 8ºC and 10ºC, being the ideal accompaniment to roasts, red meat, suckling pig, cheese and oysters. This superior sparkling wine is made from Alvarinho grapes harvested from a small vineyard, located at an altitude between 300 and 350 meters, the vines being approx. 20 years old, protected from northerly winds and featuring granite soils. This enables the development of small grapes with a thick film and slow maturation, in order to preserve all the aromatic complexity of the grape. This grape is harvested earlier so that the total acidity is higher and its ABV does not exceed 11.7%, resulting in a fresh, light sparkling wine with fine and persistent bubbles.

A TEAM DRIVEN BY EXPERTISE AND PASSION
